Our team has been doing construction at a nearby church here in Nicaragua and have come across the realization that the tools they are using are old, unsafe and hindering the process of their vision.

With that, we have decided to surprise Pastor David with new tools for his construction project to expand the church! We are collectively asking to raise $150 by the end of the week to purchase the new tools and to start using immediately as we continue to work alongside him. Here is the link to support our mission and below is more background on why we are doing it: https://www.givesendgo.com/toolsfornicuragua

Pastor David’s vision is to add a children’s school on the lowered level of the church for the community and extend the church sanctuary and add an office on the main level.

Pastor David lives with his wife and kids in Palacagüina and has been working alongside his family on this church just about every day for the past 15 years. They started with just a plot of land purchased and nothing more. They worked together with the community to create a place of worship and gathering for God. The church is an important part of the community and many of the locals are familiar with Pastor David. Once the school is complete, many will benefit from the education they receive. The better the tools this community has, the faster this impact can spread. Palacaguina is a rather small village and really close to a city with a systematic school structure. In fact, just steps away from the church is a dirt path with neighbors living in tin and wood shacks. Chickens and dogs roam the village and the smell of burning trash fills the air.

The tools that are currently being used for this project are in very poor condition. Everyday at least one of the men working are sitting aside trying to fix the tools to the best of their ability. Many of the hammers handles are parts of a tree branch and the hammer head often flies off during a swing, which is extremely dangerous. They also have a pick axe that flies off mid swing. They simply slam it on the rocks and keep swinging until it happens again. The only power tool we’ve seen them use it to try and fix the other tools by sharpening the pegs or trimming tree branches to fit into the hammerhead. These conditions are dangerous and has made this process painstakingly slow for them to move along in the project. The construction team will be able to work more effectively and will not have to stop every couple minutes to fix the tools. It will be considerably safer at the work site with functional tools and the day will be more productive.

A World Race team came in September to help dig up the lower level for the school. Now we are helping this month to move along the process as we finish digging the rock and begin laying brick down. We went to the local shop to get pricing on the tools Pastor David has that are currently broken. Our hope that this $150 will speed up the work we get to do with him this month, as well as impact the progress of future teams that come to help in the construction process! Please use this link to help support our mission and get Pastor new tools by the end of this week: https://www.givesendgo.com/toolsfornicuragua

Thank you for your heart to be a part of this surprise. We can’t wait to send pictures of him and us using the new tools to make his dream come alive faster!

  1. Hey Erica,

I am not able to contribute? I can pray, and will, but, no “donate” button?

  2. Thank you so much for noticing that! After reading your comment I went back in and saw that it wasn’t fully enabled. It should have a “Give Now” button when you click the link. Thanks for catching that early so others would be able to give right away since our wifi is so limited!
